Discussion
We had a lively discussion about getting tested… all the different types of tests and our various experiences with tests. Always very interesting to hear how/when people found out they were GI (gluten intolerant), how long it took, what kinds of monkey business they went through. Some very interesting stories shared.
Here is a quick reminder of some tests you might want to add to your repertoire.
Food allergy panels as an option for secondary allergies (blood draw) EnteroLab Genetic testing for celiac/GI genes Also does a stool test for anti-bodies
As I hear all the other various symptoms and illnesses I want to remind people, especially newly diagnosed, to keep looking for answers to excellent health. Supplements are so important for us because our diets are atypical and our bodies absorb nutrition differently. Shop for high quality supplements.
Also good suggestions about how to share a kitchen w/ gluten eating family members and manage sensitivity. Consensus seems to be: manage your gluten exposure to your own experience with sensitivity. There is no “truly gluten free”. How much exposure (crumbs, dust, etc) is up to your personal health observation.
Henry points out the difference between sensitivity to gluten vs the severity of the reaction. 2 completely different things. Very difficult to pinpoint some reactions when reactions can be difficult to quantify like:
Fatigue, hot flashes, achy, swelling, brain fog, clammy skin, chills, palpitations, sore mouth or scruffy tongue.
Thanks to everyone who came and shared their personal stories.
